Employer Sponsored 401k and Profit Sharing Plans
At Osland Financial Group, we are independent retirement plan consultants. Our service helps our client’s create, implement, and monitor company sponsored retirement plans. We do not compete, but instead compliment the service of the investment provider (ADP, Paychex, John Hancock, Nationwide, Fidelity, etc). According to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), there are four core Fiduciary duties of an employer:
- Act as a “prudent expert”
- Act with loyalty to plan participants
- Diversify plan investments
- Carry out plan duties in accordance with the plan’s terms and with ERISA
Our services assist the employer in meeting these four duties. 401k plan providers are reactive while our service is pro-active. We recommend to the employer how to best utilize the options available through the plan provider. Our service will:
- Prepare/Modify on an ongoing basis an investment policy statement (IPS). Determine criterion with an employer nominated investment committee and a process to selecting investments
- Provide investment recommendations to the committee based on the investment policy statement
- Monitor the retirement plan investments on an ongoing basis to make sure that they remain suitable pursuant to the criteria set forth in the (IPS)
- Provide a pro-active education to participants on the investment options. We will provide participants with what the DOL considers to be an adequate amount of information to allow participants to make informed investment decisions. In addition to providing information, we teach participants how to determine his/her risk tolerance, how to determine which investments match his/her risk tolerance, and how to put together a balanced portfolio
- Provide education to employees regarding financial planning. All participants have the ability to call, email, and develop a personal relationship with us to assist them in making financial decisions
